More about me

I’ve always loved words, books and stories. When I was a little girl, I alternated between wanting to be Laura Ingalls Wilder and Harriet the Spy and spent countless hours reading and making up imaginary tales of adventures far from my peaceful but somewhat mundane suburban life. Some people think stories are frivolous, but I believe that stories are the best way to understand the world and a powerful story can have a much bigger impact than a fact or statistic.

I’ve spent much of my career writing and editing and telling stories in different ways, from freelance writing, to creating a local news blog, to producing a public radio show. I’m currently enrolled in the Master’s of Art in English program at San Jose State University and I hope to teach literature after I graduate. I’m always the one awkward person at my book club who actually read the book, so it’s a relief to be surrounded by other people who love to talk about literature as much as I do!

I’m continuing to work as a freelance writer and editor while I’m in school, so if you have a writing project, I’d love to hear from you! Whether it’s writing or editing a blog post, crafting an op-ed for a local paper or editing an annual report, I specialize in finding the details that will make a lasting impact and communicate key messages that the reader will remember. Nothing makes me happier than helping shape a messy document into a finished piece, or working one on one with a client to get their story onto paper for the world to see.

When I’m not working or studying, I stay active in my local community. I’m a coach with the Future Grads program at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula, where I mentor first-generation college bound high school students through the college application process. I'm also on the advisory board of Palo Alto Partners in Education and I’ve served as a mentor and leader for the Palo Alto Cool Block program, an effort to bring neighbors together to reduce energy usage and prepare for disasters.

When I'm not writing, I love to read, travel, play tennis and spend time outdoors with my two teenaged daughters, husband and energetic dog, Abby.
